Il aurait été très malheureux pour notre endroit d'avoir été dévoilé quand les romans ont été publiés.
Et nous continuons même à demander à Cyan de garder les détails de notre endroit confidentiels pour le moment.
Nous ne sommes pas encore prêts (mais nous sommes plus proches qu'à cette époque).

According to what you just posted at DRC it says that D'ni is underneath New Mexico...
now in the Book of Atrus it gives all the impression that the cleft is in some desert in the Middle East.
It even talks about Arabs calling out to Ala...
now I'm not the biggest historian but I'm not thinking there were a whole lot of Arabs in New Mexico 200 years ago...
Just curious, are the 3 novels canon and some other explaination or is are the books just wrong?

The Myst novels are based on the writings of Catherine.
The key words there are "based on",
meaning that some details in the novels,
such as hints to the location of D'ni,
were occasionally altered in the novels.

Dans une interview, il explique avoir émis des mises en garde à l'époque (red flags) sur ces détails des romans :

There are two main continuity related complaints that people have.
The most common is the location of the Cleft.
The novels do not say where the Cleft is located, but gives several hints that it is in the Middle East.
Uru pretty blatantly says that the Cleft is in the southwestern United States.
People ask why we moved it New Mexico in Uru.
The fact is that the Cleft has always been in New Mexico,
and the red flags I raised when the hints about the Middle East were put in the novels were over-ruled.
At the time, we never intended to reveal the true location of the Cleft,
so the misdirection to the Cleft’s location being in the Middle East was considered acceptable, I guess.
Frankly, I was very happy that the locale was finally set straight in Uru.

En résumé (selon la narration IC, et non selon les faits OoC) :

Le Dr.Watson a demandé à Cyan de ne pas dévoiler le lieu de la Caverne dans les romans.
Cyan est allé plus loin en donnant à ce lieu une allure moyen-orientale (ou africaine).
Le Dr. Watson a désapprouvé ces détails.

Plus précisément (interprétation) :
Rawa établit et traduit les journaux de Catherine
Rand Miller en fait un scénario
David Wingrove romance le tout (et David Wingrove est anglais).
Le Dr.Watson désapprouve les écarts de Wingrove.
Le Dr.Watson dévoile finalement la véritable localisation de la caverne
et l'histoire de la redécouverte de d'ni
